Free Seminars Explain New IET PAT Code of Practice
Portable appliance test instrumentation specialist Seaward is hosting a series of free breakfast seminars on the new fourth edition of the IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
The seminar will explain the changes in the new Code and how it will affect those involved in PAT testing or with a responsibility to ensure a safe working environment. Topics to be covered will include, a risk based-approach to testing, the implications for fixed appliances, what to do about hired equipment and what it means for landlords.

IET Code Updated
To help businesses to understand their PAT obligations and to prevent unnecessary work, the IET has published the fourth edition of the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
The new publication will enable people with responsibility for electrical equipment, including building mangers, office managers and health and safety inspectors, to make more informed decisions on the level of inspection and testing required.
It advises a proportionate risk-based approach, taking into consideration the usage, type and environment of the equipment in question.
This updated guidance reflects the recommendations of the Löfstedt Report into health and safety legislation, published in November 2011.

New HSE Website for Office Safety
The Health and Safety Executive has launched a new website to give employers and employees information relating to health, safety and welfare in the office.
The new website is designed to help users save time on managing health and safety in the office environment by using streamlined guidance with direct links to supporting material.
The new information includes a link to a special Health and Safety Toolbox section that includes details on how to control risks at work. This is intended to help users deal with common issues that arise in the office environment and provide guidance to help control the risks – including a section on portable appliance testing.
Special Test Kits Celebrate 30 Years of PAT Success
Due to its huge success Seaward has extended its Best of British 30th anniversary PAT celebration by linking two of its downloading testers with a host of free accessories in a special promotion.
For a limited period only, the Seaward PAT Celebration will giveaway free PAT accessories alongside all Europa Plus and Supernova Elite PAT testers sold.

New Electrical Industry Partnership
In a new move to bring the electrical contracting industry closer together, the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and the Electrical Safety Council (ESC) have announced the creation of the Electrical Safety Register.
In addition, from April 1st 2013, the NICEIC and ELECSA will be operated by a brand new organisation called Certsure for the good of its customers, giving the industry a stronger voice to government and major stakeholders on relevant issues.
The partnership will bring many benefits to NICEIC and ELECSA registrants. The first is the creation of the Register, which will be the definitive searchable database of NICEIC and ELECSA registered contractors, as well as ECA members, promoted to hundreds of thousands of specifiers by the trade association and the best charity.
Certsure will also make major customer commitments to NICEIC and ELECSA customers.

- NICEIC, ELECSA and ECA customers will be included on the Electrical Safety Register
- Certsure will provide excellent customer service and actively promote its contractors in the marketplace
