GAMBICA AND BEAMA announce collaboration

BEAMA and GAMBICA have announced a co-location and back-office administration partnership in London.

GAMBICA, the UK trade association for the automation, control, instrumentation and laboratory technology sectors, has moved its London office to share Westminster premises and administration with BEAMA, which is the trade body for manufacturers of electrical and related equipment in the UK.

Representing industries that have around £21bn of turnover in the electrotechnical, instrumentation and automation sectors, these two trade associations are both engaged in UK and European activities and are keen to use as much of their funding as possible in representing their industries.

Both organisations say that they see this co-location and the sharing of back-office administration as the most efficient way of maintaining their distinct sector focus whilst freeing up funds to be used on active programmes.

Cable standard compliance now required

The Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) has announced the launch of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) in relation to power, control and communications cables in accordance with EN 50575:2014.

Manufacturers and distributors supplying cable products to European markets will in most cases need to engage with a Notified Laboratory and/or a Notified Product Certification Body, as CPR introduces new testing and certification requirements for these cables and also new CE marking requirements.

From 1 December 2015, when the standard becomes harmonised, there will only be a 12-month period during which manufacturers and suppliers will be able to establish CE marking of power, control and communications cables under EN 50575, before it becomes mandatory from 1 December 2016.

Market report predicts continuing EMS growth

A new market report says that the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) sector now accounts for almost 40 percent of all electronic goods assembly.

'The Worldwide Electronics Manufacturing Services Market - 2015 Edition' estimates that total electronics assembly value was $1.3 trillion in 2014 and will grow to approximately $1.8 trillion in 2019 - a 5.7 percent compounded annual growth rate.

The report notes that, while the rate of growth for outsourcing is slowing, it still represents the most desired manufacturing model for the assembly of electronics products available to OEM companies.

During 2014, the EMS industry expanded by approximately 5.3 percent. Going forward, it is anticipated that the industry will grow from global sales of $460 billion in 2014 to $621 billion in 2019 – around 6.2 percent CAGR. Further details are here

Safety is electrical conference theme

‘Safer by Design’ will be the theme of this year’s Product Safety Conference, to be held at Church House, Westminster, on 17th November.

Hosted by Electrical Safety First, the conference will offer presentations on topical issues, including methods of identifying foreseeable misuse, using relevant data and intelligence sources to improve recall effectiveness and the dramatic increase in the number of fake electrical products being sold online.

It will also consider the Government’s review of the UK recall system, which is due to report sometime this autumn.

The annual Product Safety Conference has grown year on year to reflect the complexity of the supply chain by attracting a wide range of delegates and speakers, from leading manufacturers and retailers, to trade bodies, enforcement agencies and non-governmental organisations.
